For some people - perhaps even for you - increasing productivity is akin to finding the Holy Grail. Why has upping productivity taken on such mythical proportions?
Simply put, increasing productivity means increasing earning potential. If you own a business where you provide any type of service, taking steps to increase your ability to deliver the service in less time will allow you to take on more clients and earn more money. Likewise, if you sell a product, finding a way to make or deliver that product faster will enable you to serve more customers, once again, making more money.
When you find ways to do the same thing in less time, you're being more efficient. Efficiency and productivity go hand in hand. Undoubtedly, the more efficient you can make the process of completing any task, the more productive you'll be. Use these strategies to increase your efficiency so you can be more productive:
The great Jim Rohn has stated that “Failure is nothing more than a few errors in judgment repeated every day.” This happens because we don’t see an immediate consequence to our actions - nothing drastic happens immediately so we continue to err.
Over the long term, though, those errors in judgment add up.
Fortunately, this principle works for success as well. As Jim Rohn stated, “Success is a few simple disciplines practiced daily.”
So how do we change between those errors in judgment to the daily disciplines to ensure success?
We have to think about the future, the long term. This is done by asking yourself, “What’s the logical conclusion or result of my daily actions?”
In my own life, I wanted to increase my flexibility and agility but wasn't doing anything to make a difference or improve. I wasn't performing the physical therapy exercises I'd been given. I wasn't stretching. I knew the end result was me being immobilized sooner. I...
In a world consistently asking us to do, be, and have more, it's easy to fall into the productivity trap of getting more done.
What would happen though, if we tried to get less done, yet were living our ideal lives?
We can take a few tips from high performers. High performers become that way by intentionally doing less. They focus on what matters.
Brendon Burchard discusses how high-performers don't necessarily do more:
No matter the field, [high performers] produce more quality output that matters in their field. It’s not that they get more done, per se; lots of their peers might do more tasks. It’s that high performers get more things done that are highly valued in their primary field of interest. They remember that the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. That focus to create only output that will be meaningful helps them excel.

This doesn't just apply to your job. Your primary field of interest...
"When do you think you'll be ready?" she asked.
Silence.
She continued calmly, "What would have to happen for you to feel ready? Is anything outside of you going to do it? Are you waiting for permission?"
She's good. She better be. This is costing me a small fortune.
Before I could respond, she snuck in a line from one of my favorite quotes, "Your playing small does not serve the world."
"Damn, she's really good," I mused.
I had no answer for her. At least, no answer she was going to let me say that wasn't an excuse. And yet, this was what I signed up for.
I recently started working with a high-performance coach to assist in breaking through some plateaus to take my life and business to the next level. On our most recent call, I shared my doubts about my ability to have an impact on others, to serve by helping them grow and live with intention. After all, this is a new direction I'm heading, one which encompasses all my experience, growth, struggles, triumphs, and failures....
